Wind Resource Management

The University of Leeds hosts one of the largest CFD centres in the UK and it is a European Centre of Excellence in CFD (2M Euro Marie Curie mono-site CFD training site).

The main research activates are in the area of energy and power generation system modelling, including such as wind and wind turbine aerodynamics, river flow, particle-laden flow, aircraft propulsive systems, combustion, heat transfer process, etc.

The wind energy group: We have 3 academics, 5 PhD students and 1 research fellow with a background in aerospace CFD.

Recent areas of research/interests include:

  • wind turbine design and blade aerodynamics modelling,
  • wind resources prediction for turbine siting in urban and built environments,
  • wind turbine wakes and wind farm power output prediction.
